South Korea’s Salvation Army invites one-minute AI videos for Red Kettle campaign

Summary

The Salvation Army in South Korea has opened a public competition for AI-generated videos about its annual Red Kettle fundraising campaign. Individuals and teams can submit videos of up to 60 seconds on the 2026 theme, “Light of Life,” interpreting the Red Kettle’s message of hope and charitable giving. Entries are open through October 30, with results scheduled for November 10. Judges will assess relevance to the theme, creativity, usefulness, finish and clarity of communication. Eight winners will share ₩2.5 million: ₩1 million for first place, ₩500,000 each for two second-place winners and ₩100,000 each for five special awards. The competition arrives as the Korean Red Kettle campaign approaches its centenary in 2028. The organiser says this year’s theme reflects its focus on protecting life and supporting neighbours in need.

Hana’s perspective

I find this interesting less for its scale than for its format: a national charity is asking the public to turn a familiar fundraising symbol into one-minute AI-made stories. That is a practical test of whether generative video can broaden participation without flattening every entry into the same visual language. The judging criteria include creativity, completion and communication, but the report does not mention disclosure, rights or consent rules. Those details matter whenever public-facing competitions invite synthetic media. Clear guidance on tools and source material would make the winning work easier to trust and reuse.
