Kazakhstan Links AI Film Ambitions to a Broader Technology and Investment Push

Summary

AI & Digital Bridge 2026 ran in Astana from October 1–3, combining government, technology, investment and creative-industry programs. Organizers reported more than 47,000 visits, 18,000 unique attendees, 429 speakers, 96 startups and 61 signed agreements. The program included sessions on AI filmmaking, music and live entertainment, plus exhibition areas for art, game development, VR and creative tools. The associated Astana AI Film Festival said it received more than 8,000 entries from 125 countries. Kazakhstan also promoted new research, computing and startup initiatives, including a planned data-center campus with up to one gigawatt of energy capacity. Most scale and impact figures were supplied by organizers or officials.

Hana’s perspective

I think the important point for creative teams is that Kazakhstan is connecting AI film to a much larger system of compute, education, startups and investment. Festivals can attract attention, but creators also need infrastructure, skills and routes to market. The event’s GameDev, art and VR areas suggest the policy agenda is wider than cinema. Still, attendance and agreement counts are inputs, not proof of a durable creative economy. The stronger measure will be whether the announced partnerships produce tools, training and financed work that local filmmakers can actually use.
