Incheon Film Week Opens With Indonesian Sci-Fi Film AI Mom

Summary

Incheon Film Week 2026 will open with the Indonesian science-fiction film AI Mom when the event runs October 23–25 at CGV Incheon Yeonsu. Set in a near future where artificial intelligence is embedded in daily life, the film examines family relationships and appears in a section asking whether humanoids can become family. That program also includes A.I., Sheep in the Box and After Yang. Five other sections connect future society, AI, genetic engineering, climate disaster and human relationships through films including Ex Machina, Gattaca, Blade Runner: The Final Cut and Blade Runner 2049. A separate animation program explores imagined relational utopias in science fiction.

Hana’s perspective

I like that this program treats AI as part of a longer cinematic conversation about care, personhood and manufactured life. Placing AI Mom beside A.I., After Yang and Blade Runner shifts attention away from the novelty of current tools and toward questions filmmakers have been refining for decades. The animation strand matters too: imagined utopias often reveal what a culture wants from relationships before technology can provide it. For creators working with generative media, this is a reminder that technique does not supply a theme. A film becomes meaningful when its form helps audiences examine who receives care, who belongs to a family and who gets recognized as human.
