Summary
Korean AI storytelling lab PROM says it will formally launch PROM Choice in October, an archive where AI filmmakers, academics and critics evaluate AI-made films. Reviewers score storytelling, technical execution, expression and novelty in half-point increments on a five-point “moon score,” then add a comment of no more than 31 Korean characters. Individual scores and disagreements remain visible. The first selection, NOT YET, received an aggregate 3.25. PROM plans to feature selections each Tuesday and Friday through its newsletter and community, while accepting submissions without guaranteeing coverage. It will extend the project offline with an AI film screening and guest discussion on October 23. PROM frames the initiative as a human-curated response to the growing volume of low-quality AI content.
Hana’s perspective
I see PROM Choice as a useful attempt to move AI-film culture beyond tool demos and viral clips. Its strongest idea is not the 3.25 score, but publishing the differences between filmmakers and critics: those gaps can reveal whether a work succeeds as cinema even when its generation technique is impressive. The four criteria are a sensible starting point, though the archive will become valuable only if its reviewers apply them consistently and explain what “overcoming AI’s limits” means as models improve. Pairing the online record with screenings and discussion could also give creators feedback that recommendation algorithms cannot. Human curation will not solve the flood of weak synthetic media by itself, but it can help build a shared critical vocabulary around AI-native filmmaking.
