Chinese AI Comic Drama Registers Its Creation Process as Data IP

Summary

Chinese AI comic-drama producer Guizhou Tianyue Technology received a data intellectual-property registration certificate for the creation process behind The Regent’s Reborn Sweetheart on September 15. The report describes it as China’s first registration of an AI comic-drama production process. Software installed on the production computer captured interactions with AI tools, then Guizhou Cultural Property Exchange cleaned and structured the records for submission to the provincial intellectual-property authority. The process reportedly took 15–20 days, with data cleaning completed in several hours. The mechanism is intended to preserve evidence of prompts, parameter changes, selections and other human input when project files are too large to retain or submit easily. A lawyer quoted in the report stressed that Chinese copyright law still turns on original human expression: sustained creative control may qualify, while a simple prompt or selection from random outputs may not.

Hana’s perspective

I see the useful innovation here as evidence infrastructure, not a new shortcut to copyright. AI production can generate thousands of prompts, edits and model outputs, while conventional screenshots reveal little about who shaped the final expression. A structured, timestamped record could make genuine creative control easier to demonstrate and discourage cheap “re-skinning.” But the certificate should not be confused with a court ruling that every generated element is protected. Its value will depend on whether the collection system is tamper-resistant, privacy-conscious and detailed enough to separate human choices from automated output. For AI animation teams, provenance may soon become as important as rendering quality.
