Summary
Chinese comics platform Kuaikan is testing Livo, an AI-native product built around persistent characters and interactive story worlds. Founder Chen Anni says users’ choices and conversations alter those worlds, while character biographies are converted into layered personality rules intended to preserve identity, memory and emotional development. Kuaikan plans to draw on more than 13,000 comic properties and 120,000 creators, moving compensation from page fees toward revenue sharing based on paid interaction and token use. Chen describes the shift as a progression from using AI for efficiency, to adding interaction to comics, to rebuilding the content form around AI itself.
Hana’s perspective
Kuaikan is making the right strategic distinction: AI-native media is not a cheaper version of an old format. It changes the object being sold—from a finished sequence to an ongoing relationship. The unresolved question is governance. Persistent characters need boundaries, authorial control and economics that creators can inspect. Token consumption may measure intensity, but it can also reward dependence rather than meaning. Livo becomes important if Kuaikan can prove that authored character logic survives improvisation and that creators share in the value their worlds continue to generate.
