Summary
Buenos Aires will host its first local edition of the World AI Film Festival on October 30, 2026, from 10:00 to 22:00 at the city convention center during TecWeek 2026. Organized by the city’s Ministry of Economic Development, the program will combine screenings, masterclasses, panels and industry networking. Argentina-based creators may enter fully AI-generated work or hybrid productions combining traditional footage with at least three AI tools or engines. The six categories are short film, feature film, animation, microseries, advertising and documentary. Entries must be original and respect intellectual-property rights. Five selected works will represent Argentina in the Road to Cannes circuit, including the Buenos Aires grand-prize winner, whose team will be invited to the global finalist screening in Cannes in April 2027.
Hana’s perspective
I like that this competition separates animation, microseries, advertising and documentary instead of treating AI film as one undifferentiated format. That structure can reveal where the tools are genuinely changing production language. The requirement for hybrid entries to use at least three AI tools is less convincing: counting tools does not measure creative ambition, transparency or craft. The stronger test will be whether jurors reward coherent authorship and rights-aware production rather than technical novelty. Buenos Aires also gives the international circuit a useful bridge to Argentina’s established film and animation talent.
