Summary
South Korean startup The Manta Story has raised an undisclosed seed investment from accelerator Series Ventures to develop The Road, an AI video engine for long-form commercial VFX. The system supports a workflow from script input and image generation through sequence assembly and final review. The company says an internal production test cut time and cost by as much as 70%, allowing work normally handled by dozens of people over several months to be completed by a smaller team. It also says the model is fine-tuned on its own intellectual-property library to reduce copyright risk and produce commercially usable output. The team cites 25 years of VFX experience, including work on Train to Busan, Peninsula and Jung_E, plus seven AI and digital-twin patents.
Hana’s perspective
I find the focus on production continuity more important than another claim of faster generation. Long-form work fails when characters, environments and shots cannot stay consistent across a sequence, so putting generation inside a reviewable VFX pipeline addresses a real studio problem. A rights-controlled asset library is also a sensible response to commercial clients’ concerns, although a company-owned training set does not by itself settle every copyright question. The 70% saving is an internal result, not an independent benchmark. The next test is whether The Road can repeat that performance on outside productions with demanding directors and delivery standards.
