Murcia’s IBAFF Selects 28 Films and Expands Its Training Program

Summary

Murcia’s IBAFF film festival will open October 9 with 28 competition titles selected from 634 submissions. Nine features will compete for a €10,000 prize and 19 shorts for €6,000. The 16th edition expands into new venues including Cárcel Vieja, Estrella de Levante’s tasting room and Café Ficciones, alongside the Murcia regional film archive and Cuartel de Artillería. Its wider program includes masterclasses, workshops, criticism seminars, filmmaker talks, an audiovisual-industry forum and a pitching session for nine projects. Free children’s activities cover drone piloting and acting for camera, while outreach screenings will visit hospitals, youth centers and a prison.

Hana’s perspective

I find the regional infrastructure around the screenings more significant than the raw submission count. Workshops, criticism seminars and a pitching session can help filmmakers move from showing work to improving and financing it. The children’s drone and acting workshops also connect technical literacy with performance rather than treating cinema as a single craft. For people working in AI animation, IBAFF’s announced program is a reminder that new production tools still need festivals, critics and audiences around them. This source does not identify a dedicated AI or animation strand, so I would not frame the event as a technology showcase. Its value here is the broader model of local talent development and access.
