Miniput 2026 puts vertical storytelling and public-media innovation on stage

Summary

Barcelona’s 32nd Miniput television showcase will put vertical series and public-service media innovation at the center of a 12-hour program on October 23 at Teatre del CCCB. The event will present 17 programs from multiple countries alongside discussions drawn from this year’s INPUT conference. A dedicated panel will examine how mobile viewing is changing audiovisual creation and consumption. The Belgian fiction series “Red Flag,” told entirely through a phone’s perspective, will be accompanied by a creator case study. Other sessions will cover public broadcasters’ experiments, including AI-assisted recreations of Gaudí’s era, long takes, animation and documentary formats. Miniput is being held within the industry program of Barcelona’s Serielizados festival.

Hana’s perspective

I find Miniput’s framing useful because it treats vertical video as a creative language rather than merely a distribution trick. A phone-native point of view can shape blocking, intimacy and even what information exists inside a scene. The public-service setting also broadens the conversation beyond retention metrics: broadcasters can test new forms while asking what they explain, whose experiences they represent and how transparently they use technology. For microdrama teams, the program is a reminder that vertical storytelling will mature through formal experimentation, not just shorter episodes and faster hooks.
