Summary
Koyal AI and Waveband Production unveiled a poster for Jamlok, a planned multilingual horror film that the companies expect to complete in three months. The makers call it the world’s first AI-powered horror film, an unverified promotional claim. Their stated hybrid workflow keeps real actors for emotional performances while using generative AI for backgrounds, sets, extras, assets, costumes and some likeness-based production. Major Bollywood and Tollywood performers are reportedly in talks, but none were named. The announcement came at Koyal’s Uncanny India festival in New Delhi, where the company also demonstrated Koyal 3.0, a platform it says can turn scripts or voice recordings into films while preserving character and location consistency.
Hana’s perspective
I find the hybrid production plan more meaningful than the unsupported “world’s first” label. Using real performances while generating costly environments, extras and costumes could test where AI expands production rather than replaces acting. But likeness use is the pressure point. The project should disclose consent, compensation and limits clearly, because a three-month schedule is not progress if rights protections are treated as an afterthought.
