Summary
The third Hippo Cup College Student AI Creative Microdrama Competition launched at Sichuan University of Media and Communications on September 29. Guided by the China Netcasting Services Association, organized by the China Good Creativity competition committee and run by Dianzhong Technology, it adds tracks for AI-assisted realistic subjects and AI creative storytelling. The university also opened an AIGC Audiovisual Industry Institute at the launch, intended to combine film fundamentals with applied AI skills. According to the organizer-focused report, earlier editions expanded from a broad microdrama contest to a dedicated AIGC track and university partnerships. Dianzhong says it plans to connect competitions, training, production tools, intellectual property and distribution, although the article’s market-size, employment and performance figures should be treated as attributed claims rather than independent measurements.
Hana’s perspective
I find the shift from a general student contest to an AI-specific one more significant than the article’s promotional market forecasts. It treats creative judgment as the constraint after generation tools become widely available. The new institute could turn that idea into practical training, but its value should be measured through transparent curricula, student work and employment outcomes—not participation totals or company-supplied market claims. Requiring teams to solve story and character problems would be a better test than rewarding visual novelty alone.
