Summary
Bakhtarin Animation has begun production on The Tale of Navi: Sparks of Alatyr, a self-financed dark-fantasy anime inspired by Slavic mythology. The 16+ story takes place across the worlds of the living, the dead and the law separating them, following a young man drawn into conflict with monsters that feed on human fears and vices. Showrunner Dmitry Bakhtarin describes a hybrid pipeline in which the team creates the script, concepts, storyboards, direction and shots, uses AI animation for one production stage, then performs manual refinement, editing, sound and post-production. The first-season script, setting and concept art are complete, and episodes are in production. The studio plans five seasons and is recruiting creative staff while seeking platforms and investors. Its website gives conflicting timing: a 2027 label but a production description pointing to a 2026 start.
Hana’s perspective
I find the explicit separation between human direction and AI-assisted animation encouraging. Small studios can gain real leverage if generation reduces repetitive labor while writers, artists and directors retain control over the world and shots. But a five-season ambition is not evidence of a sustainable series. The project still needs a settled release plan, demonstrated episode quality, financing and clear disclosure of the tools and source rights behind generated material. The teaser can establish a look; consistent storytelling and production practices will determine whether the hybrid pipeline can carry a full season.
