Pusan National University and Motif Technologies Partner on AI Training

Summary

Pusan National University’s AI Graduate School signed a memorandum of understanding with Korean foundation-model company Motif Technologies on October 2 to train AI specialists and expand industry-academic research. The partners said they will combine the university’s education and research capacity with Motif’s model-development experience, with an emphasis on practical skills and locally developed Korean AI. Their first joint activity was the 2026 Pusan National University AI Colloquium, open to students and the public. Motif chief executive Lim Jung-hwan discussed lessons from building foundation models and project-based training. The program is linked to national and Busan-backed talent initiatives, while the university says it plans further work on AI services, research and workforce development.

Hana’s perspective

I see the value here less in another memorandum and more in where the collaboration is aimed: turning foundation-model research into practical training. For creative AI teams, the persistent bottleneck is not only model access but people who can evaluate, adapt and deploy models responsibly inside real workflows. A regional university working directly with a model builder can shorten that gap. The test will be whether this produces durable courses, research outputs and working services rather than ending with a lecture series.
