EBS Turns 11 Korean Literary Works Into 13 Generative-AI Dramas

Summary

South Korean public broadcaster EBS will premiere EBS AI Literature Hall on October 16, adapting 11 Korean literary works into 13 generative-AI dramas and animations. The series includes Kim You-jeong’s Spring, Hyun Jin-geon’s B-Sagam and the Love Letter and Hometown, and works by Lee Hyo-seok, Jo Wi-han, Kang Gyeong-ae and Choi Seo-hae. Its first episode, Hogu’s Spring, reworks Spring as a drama while retaining the original’s comic conflict. Other episodes use stylized spaces or animation to express interior states and the losses of the colonial period. Selected texts include works taught in schools, and EBS says experts advised the adaptations. Each work is led by one director from planning through completion, extending EBS’s 2025 one-person AI short-drama pilot into a regular series running through January 8, 2027.

Hana’s perspective

I think the production model matters as much as the adaptations. Giving one director responsibility from concept to final image tests whether generative tools can expand individual authorship without flattening every work into the same visual style. Public broadcasting is also a useful setting because viewers can compare the adaptations with texts already taught in schools. The real test will be whether the images clarify character, irony and historical context, rather than merely illustrating familiar plots. EBS should eventually disclose more about models, rights and human review so educators can evaluate the process as well as the result.
