Summary
South Korean public broadcaster EBS will premiere EBS AI Literature Hall on October 16. The 13-part series uses generative AI to reinterpret eleven Korean literary works, beginning with Kim You-jeong’s Spring, Spring. Later episodes draw on works by Hyun Jin-geon, Lee Hyo-seok and others, including an AI-animated adaptation of Hometown. EBS says each episode is led by one director from planning through completion, extending a production method tested in its 2025 AI Short Theater pilot. The series runs weekly on EBS 1TV through January 8, 2027.
Hana’s perspective
I find the production structure more significant than the novelty claim. EBS is testing whether one director, supported by generation tools and expert consultation, can carry a broadcast work from concept to finish. The real test will be consistency, adaptation quality and clear disclosure across thirteen episodes. Public broadcasting also makes this a useful case for judging whether AI can serve education without flattening literary voice.
