Summary
Spanish television presenter Isabel Jiménez introduced her grandmother Carmen Rodríguez on Telecinco’s midday news as Rodríguez marked her 100th birthday. Rodríguez said she follows AI-created vertical microdramas on Instagram, especially stories centered on older characters, and described the short series as entertaining. The segment framed her viewing as an example of the format reaching older mobile users, not only younger social-media audiences. Oriol Franco, co-founder of Verti Series, told the program that these microdramas can run for roughly 50 episodes of about one minute each, using cliffhangers to lead viewers into the next installment. Rodríguez lives independently, socializes with friends and uses Instagram, according to the report; her appearance offered an individual case rather than broad audience data.
Hana’s perspective
I find this small audience story useful because it complicates assumptions about who watches vertical AI fiction. A centenarian enjoying serialized mobile melodrama is not market research, but it shows that the format’s appeal can cross age groups when stories, pacing and interfaces feel accessible. The one-minute cliffhanger structure also explains why microdramas can become habitual viewing. Producers should not reduce older viewers to a novelty, though. If platforms want this audience, readable captions, clear controls and transparent recommendation systems should be part of the product, not an afterthought.
