Summary
Barcelona startup Kompanion has raised €800,000 in its first funding round, led by JME Ventures with participation from Acurio, Banco Sabadell’s BStartup and several angel investors. The company combines proprietary AI with human advisers to serve as an outsourced accounting and administrative department for small businesses, startups, digital agencies and ecommerce companies. Its system collects invoices from email or WhatsApp, reconciles bank activity and classifies expenses, while advisers focus on analysis and business guidance. A private portal shows clients financial metrics in real time. Kompanion says it has more than 150 customers and was profitable while bootstrapped. It plans to use the funding for technology hiring, AI and automated reconciliation, targeting 300 customers by the end of 2026 and eventual expansion beyond Spain.
Hana’s perspective
Kompanion’s “sell the result, not another tool” position is persuasive for small creative businesses. Animation studios, agencies and microdrama producers already juggle fragmented production software; they do not need accounting automation to become another system requiring constant care. The hybrid model is also sensible because tax and financial decisions still need accountable human judgment. The hard test will be accuracy across messy documents and changing regulations, especially if the company expands beyond Spain into countries with different accounting rules.
