Prime Video Takes AI-Produced Çukur Spinoff Worldwide

Summary

Prime Video acquired global rights to Çukur: Vartolu, an AI-produced film spun off from Ay Yapım’s Turkish crime series Çukur, according to Variety via MSN. The film traces Vartolu Sadettin’s childhood and later confrontation in Istanbul. Producer AI Yapım says every frame, including faces and settings, was generated with AI, while human actors supplied movement, timing and expression and human voice actors recorded all dialogue. The project extends the workflow used for AI Yapım’s two-part Castle Walls into an established franchise. Ay Yapım says the original live-action Çukur has aired in 105 countries and its official YouTube channel exceeds 6.4 billion cumulative views.

Hana’s perspective

I see this as a more consequential test than an isolated AI demo because it asks an existing fandom to accept generated faces and environments as canon-adjacent storytelling. The human performances complicate the phrase “AI-generated”: actors still supplied movement, timing, expression and voices. That division should be credited clearly. Prime Video’s reach will expose whether viewers value continuity of character and story over the visual irregularities associated with generated production.
