Summary
At its 2026 creator conference, Yuewen announced an AI-content strategy spanning animated comics, premium animation, hybrid live-action projects and longer series. It upgraded DramaBuddy into an OPC platform that combines licensed IP, production tools, multilingual conversion and global distribution, and said it has signed more than 5,000 individual creators and studios. Yuewen reported first-half short-drama and animated-comic revenue above 430 million yuan, up 230%, while 107 animated comics exceeded 100 million views. The company also introduced an IP-committee model intended to coordinate animation, live action, games and merchandise. These figures and creator-income claims come from Yuewen. The report also identifies copyright, visual sameness, weak storytelling and revenue allocation as unresolved risks.
Hana’s perspective
This is the clearest version of the supply shift. AI makes adaptation cheaper, but that does not make attention, taste or durable IP abundant. Yuewen is building a closed system from rights access through production, localization and distribution. That can turn lightweight animation into a measured test before larger investment. The risk is that platform efficiency becomes aesthetic sameness. The meaningful metrics are not uploads or raw views. They are retention, accepted-shot cost, creator income, movement into higher-value formats and whether a work lifts the original story.
